Masters Programme goals
INSA IMS

INSA Graduate School of Science and Technology international masters programmes offer foreign students a scientifically-oriented technological education to the highest of international standards.

The scientific and technological program is accompanied by an introduction to French language and European culture beyond the frame of purely professional training.

The aim is to provide students with the technological and scientific skills that will enable them not only to exercise their profession in their speciality at the highest technological level but also to communicate and cooperate effectively in an international professional context.

Typical careers for students from those programmes are top management positions in their countries of origin in high-technology industries, in government bodies and in higher education and research institutions.

2 Masters of science degrees
INSA IMS To fulfil those requirements, INSA-Lyon, one of the three top scientific universities of Lyon proposes European Master Degrees in the field of Information Systems (IMIS) and System Engineering (IMESI).

These courses follow a Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Computer Sciences (or equivalent), and lasts two academic years. Particular attention is given not only to acquiring technical skills, but also to the cultural differences inside a project team and the management approaches that need be used.

First year of the Masters programme
INSA IMS
The first year of the International Master Programme familiarises the students to the most advanced theoretical, numerical and experimental methods in the concerned fields.

According to the Euro-pean Union standards, the first year corresponds to 60 european credits, equivalent to a global amount of scientific and technical work of approximately 1200 hours (about 10 courses) for the whole year ( 2 semesters).
The work decomposes in 240 hours of lectures, 480 hours of super-vised learning (laboratory exercises and computational work) and 480 hours of unsupervised personal learning.

Humanities and Introduction to French Language and Culture complete the general culture of the candidate.

Interdisciplinarity is favorised : students have the possibility of build a program including courses of other specialities, under previous acknowledgement of the Master’s committee (the program may be submitted directly to the Master’s dean).

Second year of the Masters programme

During the second Year of the International Master Programme, language of large number of the courses is french.

The third semester is dedicated to theorical subjects, to profundize the first year bases.

The fourth term will be dedicated to an industry placement; to be undertaken either with a company, with a research laboratory, or with a third institution, in view of preparing their Master’s dissertation.

2 week free intensive course before the start of term
This is a general intermediate level course of 60 hours including basic revision of grammar, listening, speaking practice and note taking techniques. It is extremely useful before starting the master of science programme. The course also includes visits to some interesting sites in and around. It is an excellent way for exchange students to meet each other and settle into life in France.

Weekly two-hour classes for all international students
Classes in general French take place every Thursday afternoon : revision, development of oral skills (presentations, discussions around news articles or articles on France and French culture) development of writing skills.

Multi-media Centre (self-access) open throughout the year

The centre is open on a self service basis and you will find material at various levels with which you can work on your listening skills, pronunciation and grammar. The French teachers will be happy to guide you in your study and help you progress more efficiently.
